Unit Details:
27th Infantry Regiment was organized during the winter of 1861-1862. Its members were raised in the parishes of East Feliciana, Iberville, Rapides, Winn, Bienville, Caddo, and Bossier. This unit was assigned to General Shoup's Brigade in the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, and during the long siege of Vicksburg it lost 58 killed and 96 wounded. After the exchange it served in A. Thomas' Brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department and was active in various conflicts in Louisiana. In July, 1862, the regiment had 26 officers and 249 men present for duty, but only a remnant disbanded in the spring of 1865. Its commanders were Colonel Leon D. Marks and A.S. Norwood, Lieutenant Colonel L.L. McLaurin, and Major George Tucker.- This family tree contains 1 known Confederate soldier.
