Pro-Cruz robocall hits Trump on Confederate flag

A pro-Ted Cruz robocall in South Carolina is slamming Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump and tying him to Gov. Nikki Haley (R)  for supporting the removal of the Confederate battle flag from public property.

"Put it in a museum, let it go," the robocall says, quoting Trump, according to the Post and Courier of Charleston, S.C.
"That's Donald Trump supporting Nikki Haley removing the battle flag from the Confederate memorial in Columbia," a narrator continues, adding that "people like Donald Trump are always butting their noses into other people's business" and that "Trump talks about our flag like it's a social disease."

The call was put out by the Courageous Conservative Political Action Committee, which supports Cruz.

It comes after a poll released Tuesday showed 70 percent of Trump supporters and 62 percent of Cruz supporters opposed removing the flag.

Haley led the fight to remove the flag after nine people in June were killed at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston.
The suspect in that shooting, Dylann Storm Roof, was often seen photographed with Confederate imagery and said he wanted to start a race war, according to police.

Cruz said the decision to remove the flag should be left to the state.
